What's new in Vocabulary App

We regularly add new features to the bot and fix the problems you run into. Below is what changed in each version. Have an idea or found a problem? Write to us through the contact form, or send /feedback in the bot.

1.7 —

Fixed

  • When the bot asks whether you know a word, or during a review, your own explanation of the meaning is checked as an answer instead of going to the tutor as a question. Russian and Ukrainian.
  • If you reply "Знаю" ("I know") during a review, the bot asks for the meaning instead of counting a miss. Russian and Ukrainian.
  • "Продолжим с другими словами" ("let's go on with other words") and similar phrases while you write examples take you to the next word. Russian and Ukrainian.
  • Example sentences on a word card use the word instead of talking about it.

1.6 —

Fixed

  • When you copy the corrected sentence word for word, the bot accepts it right away.
  • An English example cut off mid-thought, such as "Agriculture is important because", no longer counts. The bot asks you to finish it or write another one.
  • If you learn English with explanations in English, sentences with "when", "how" or "why" are no longer taken for questions.
  • An account of a word's origin that contradicts Wiktionary is no longer shown on the card.

1.5 —

New

  • Words instead of buttons. On any question with buttons, you can reply in your own words, typed or spoken, for example "let's stop for today". The bot treats it like a tap on the button.
  • Translation into the language you learn. Ask "how do you say … in English?" and get the English word with its meanings, plus an offer to learn it.
  • Setup no longer asks for the interface language: the bot takes it from Telegram, and you can change it in /settings.

Fixed

  • If you change a setting in the middle of a lesson, the bot takes you back to the step where you stopped.
  • Sending the same sentence twice no longer counts as a second example.
  • If you rewrite a corrected sentence and a mistake is still there, the bot names the word that is still wrong.
  • If every word in your InterSub dictionary is in your explanation language, the bot explains why there is nothing to learn and offers to change the language.
  • The Spanish texts use neutral wording that reads naturally in Spain and Latin America.

1.4 —

New

  • Adding words from the chat. Write "add words cat, dog" or paste a list: the bot finds the words and asks before adding them.
  • Translated examples. Examples on a word card come with a translation into your explanation language. You can turn it off in /settings.
  • Bigger topics. Each of the 13 English topics grew from about 115 to about 270 words.
  • Facts about the word on many more English word cards.
  • Replies from the team. If you sent feedback, you can get a reply in the bot and answer it.

Fixed

  • In reply to "Do you know this one?", you can ask to see the card or guess the meaning: the bot shows the card or answers "close" or "not quite".
  • If you reply "I remember" during a review, the bot asks for the meaning instead of counting a miss.
  • When the AI service is unavailable, the bot says so and offers to try again, instead of going silent or grading your answer anyway.
  • After you switch the explanation language, reviews and translations appear in the new language.
  • British and American spellings, such as "colour" and "color", count as the same word.
  • A different real word typed by mistake, such as "gust" for "guest", is no longer taken for a typo.

1.3 —

New

  • A word you forgot during a review comes back once more in the same session.
  • Fill-in-the-gap reviews go through the example sentences on the word's card in turn.
  • After "No idea", the card the bot shows includes the sentence in which you first saw the word.

Fixed

  • After /feedback in the middle of a lesson, the bot takes you back to the word where you stopped.
  • When part of a sentence can't be read, the tutor asks what you meant instead of guessing.
  • If you read explanations in Chinese, Japanese, Korean, Russian, Ukrainian or Bulgarian, answers to your questions come in that language, not in English.
  • Notes and examples on a card match the meanings the card shows.
  • Asking to change the topic or skip the word while you write examples takes you to the next word. Russian and Ukrainian.

1.2 —

New

  • A fact about the word. English word cards show a checked fact under "💡 About the word".
  • Topic icons and a clearer topic list.
  • An adaptive level check. As you mark which words of a topic you already know, the words on each next page match your level.
  • More facts about films and series: every title in the collection now has ten.

Fixed

  • The bot recognises the word you practise in different forms, such as "found" for "find".
  • Wrong notes on how words are used have been fixed on the word cards.
  • The "📜 Where it comes from" block now draws on Wiktionary instead of making things up.
  • "Next word" or "stop" while you write examples works, and a sentence without the word is no longer praised.
  • A word whose card can't be prepared no longer stops the lesson.
  • Questions in Spanish, German, French, Czech, Polish, Japanese, Chinese and Korean are recognised as questions, not graded as examples.
  • When you send two voice messages in a row, each transcript is confirmed on its own.
  • The bot no longer says "You vanished right at the good part" right after you have answered.
  • The bot answers questions about a card using the information on that card.
