About Vocabulary App
Vocabulary App (@InterSubWords_bot) is a free vocabulary app inside Telegram, made by InterSub. It explains each new word with a card, checks the sentences the learner comes up with, typed or spoken, and brings the word back with spaced repetition. It is run by Intersub Inc.
Who we are and whom we help
We build Vocabulary App for people who learn a language alongside work and life and want a few minutes of vocabulary practice a day, not hours of study. Many of them collect words with InterSub, our browser extension: it shows dual subtitles in series and videos, translates words on any website, and saves every word looked up. Others bring their own lists or start from ready topics.
The bot works in Telegram on a phone, a computer or in Telegram Web, so there is no separate app to install.
Our idea
- The learner’s own words: from the shows and videos they watch, the websites they read, their own lists, or a ready topic.
- Their own sentences, typed or spoken. For new words, the learner comes up with sentences by text or voice, and the AI tutor shows what to fix and why.
- Short sessions. A session takes 3–5 minutes: reviews first, then new words.
- Minimum effort. The bot sends reminders at the times the learner picks and brings words back on schedule.
What the bot does
- Word cards: meanings in the learner’s language, examples in the language they learn, a phrase with the word and its translation, a transcription of the pronunciation and audio. Some words also get a short fact about the word or its origin.
- Sentence checks: the AI tutor reviews each example, typed or spoken, for grammar, vocabulary and word usage and shows a corrected version.
- Questions at any moment: the learner can ask the tutor about a word or grammar by text or voice.
- Spaced repetition: words come back for review at growing intervals, with questions that alternate between the meaning, the word and a gap in a sentence.
- Voice answers: the bot shows what it heard and checks it like text.
- Ready topics: about 3,300 English words in all, in 13 topics and a core set of 500 common words, from A1 to C2.
- Adding words: from the InterSub dictionary, a CSV or Excel file, a pasted list, or one word at a time in the chat.
- Reminders at chosen times, never during quiet hours.
How it differs
- It is free.
- The learner practises their own words or picks a ready topic; there is no fixed course.
- The learner comes up with their own sentences, typed or spoken, and a tutor explains the mistakes, instead of only tapping flashcards.
- It works in Telegram on a phone, a computer and in Telegram Web.
- The learner can bring words saved while watching videos or reading websites into practice through the InterSub dictionary.
Who it is for
Vocabulary App suits learners from beginner to advanced who study at a steady pace and want their vocabulary to grow from the content they enjoy.
Current limits:
- The ready topics are English words. Other languages need the learner’s own words.
- The bot works in Telegram only.
- The bot does not connect to video sites or other websites itself: it takes words from the InterSub dictionary. On the free InterSub plan, access to saved words is limited.
Where it is going
The Telegram bot is the first interface of the InterSub learning system. The next step is an AI tutor for speaking practice, built around the same words.
